About necklaces & pendants by Sharon Teaman
A pendant is the most forgiving home for a beautiful but fragile stone. It takes less abrasion than a ring and can carry more size, which is why so much of Sharon’s opal, drusy and watermelon tourmaline work ends up here. Open-back settings let light travel through a stone rather than bouncing off a solid backing, and that difference is visible immediately in slices and translucent material.
Most pendants are sold without a chain so the two can be matched properly — a heavy stone needs a chain that can carry it, and a delicate one deserves better than an off-the-shelf cable. Sharon stocks sterling and vermeil chains in several weights and lengths for exactly this reason.
