About Diamond
Diamond is pure carbon crystallized under extraordinary pressure. At 10 on the Mohs scale nothing else scratches it, which is the practical reason it has dominated engagement rings for a century — it survives daily wear better than any alternative.
Quality is assessed on the four Cs: carat weight, cut, clarity and color. Cut matters most and is the one factor entirely within human control. A well-cut stone of modest color and clarity will outperform a poorly cut stone with better paper credentials every time, because cut governs how light returns to the eye.
Fancy-colored diamonds are worth knowing about. Cognac and champagne diamonds, long dismissed, have real warmth against yellow gold and cost a fraction of colorless material. Sharon uses them as accents where a colorless stone would look cold against the metal.
Why Sharon works with diamond
Sharon sets both natural and laboratory-grown diamonds and states which is which on every piece and every appraisal. She uses small earth-mined diamonds as accents throughout her work, and for center stones she will source to a client’s specification rather than pushing stock she happens to hold.
Caring for diamond
Diamond is easy to clean but attracts grease. Warm soapy water and a soft brush restores brilliance; ultrasonic cleaning is safe for most stones but not for heavily included or fracture-filled ones.
Common questions about diamond
Which of the four Cs matters most?
Cut, without much argument. It determines brilliance and fire, and a superbly cut stone will look better than a larger, better-graded stone that was cut badly. Sharon would rather sell you a smaller, beautifully cut diamond than a bigger dull one.
What are the three Cs beyond the four?
Certification, conflict-free sourcing and cost. A stone should come with an independent report, a clear supply chain, and a price you understand — Sharon breaks out the stone cost and the metal cost separately on every piece so you can see both.
Do you sell conflict-free diamonds?
Yes. Sharon sources through established suppliers operating under the Kimberley Process, and laboratory-grown diamonds offer a fully traceable alternative for clients who want one.
