Pink & Peach Tourmaline
Blush, peach, hot pink and deep raspberry rubellite — manganese gives tourmaline the warmest half of its color range.

About Pink & Peach Tourmaline
Manganese is responsible for the whole pink family, and the amount present decides where a stone lands: a trace gives the soft peaches and blushes that read almost like morganite, while heavier concentrations produce the saturated pinks and the red-purple rubellite that sits at the top of the range.
Pink tourmaline flatters a very wide range of skin tones, which is part of why it has stayed popular for well over a century. It also pairs unusually well with its own species — the mint-and-blush combinations that recur through Sharon’s work are almost always two tourmalines chosen to sit against each other.
Rubellite deserves a note of its own. To earn the name a stone should hold its red under artificial light rather than shifting brown, and fine rubellite is often more included than lighter pink material. Some inclusion is normal and accepted in this variety rather than treated as a fault.
Why Sharon works with pink & peach tourmaline
Sharon pairs pink and peach tourmaline against green tourmaline, pearl and opal more often than she sets it alone, and she is particular about matching pairs for earrings — two stones from the same rough will agree in a way that two similar stones from different parcels never quite do.
Caring for pink & peach tourmaline
Warm soapy water and a soft brush. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, especially with rubellite, which is more often included.
Common questions about pink & peach tourmaline
What is the difference between pink tourmaline and rubellite?
Rubellite is the trade name for the most saturated red to red-purple tourmaline, and to qualify it should keep its red under incandescent light. Lighter and less saturated stones are simply called pink tourmaline.
Is pink tourmaline a good alternative to pink sapphire?
It is a good deal less expensive and available in larger sizes, though sapphire is harder and better suited to a ring worn every day. For pendants and earrings tourmaline is often the smarter buy.
